I am reminded on this Sunday of the tremendous beauty of the works of our lives; manual labor, professions that restore health, care for families and children, building and fighting for a just society. Standing at a distance it all has beauty. Sr. Joan Chittister tells this wonderful medieval story of a traveler who asks three stonemasons what they are doing. The first replies “ I am sanding marble”. The second replies “ I am building a foundation”. The third replies “ I am creating a cathedral”. In these intense moments of resuming work, reopening businesses, fighting a pandemic, advocating for justice, and caring for others, we would do well to celebrate our collective human efforts. We are reforming and shaping a more perfect union that we all can be proud of for future generations to stand on. On this we are united. #workculture
