Stu Schaefer

 

Stu A. Schaefer is Strategic Leadership Associates Vice President of Financial Services.  Stu is a professional financial and management consultant with expertise in accounting, performance improvement, and advanced cost management.  He has helped executives and management teams to discover ways to increase revenue and moderate expenses.  He has held the Office of Chief Financial Officer, Shared Service CFO, and has extensive experience with activity-based costing.  In addition, he has formulated Balanced Scorecards and Operational Dashboards to support management’s drive toward strategic change.  Stu has assisted organizxations by documenting and changing internal business control weaknesses in preparation for Sarbanes-Oxley audits.

Stu was formerly employed by Deceuninck North America, most recently as Director of Sales Administration.  In addition, he served as a Business Consultant for Deloitte & Touche, LLP (Emerging Business Practice Unit), a Controller for the Real Estate Division of Gem City Savings, and a Staff Accountant for Electra Form, Inc.

Stu received a BA in Accounting and Finance, Mechanical Engineering, and completed numerous advanced courses in costing, business planning, strategy, and business intelligence.  In addition, Stu holds a USA CPA Certificate in the State of Ohio.  He has been a course instructor for:  Business Analysis and Costing Methodology; Organizational Modeling:  Basics, Advanced, Integration, and Planning; and Applying “Systemic Thinking” to Business Problems (developed by MIT).

Stu is an expert in applying performance management improvement to both private and public sector organizations.  He has worked with a wide variety of organizations, including: manufacturing and service industries, public and private “for-profit” companies, not-for-profit organizations, federal and state government organizations, and all branches of the military.  His clients have ranged from large revenue to small revenue organizations, primarily in the United States, but also around the world.

Stu is an accomplished project manager and teacher, working with leading software companies as a project specialist and course instructor.  Stu has worked with leading management consulting firms to train their professional staff on software and methodology and as a project leader for many projects.

Stu is known throughout the performance management consulting community for his leadership of performance management and costing projects, case studies in respected books on performance management, regular speaking engagements at performance management conferences, and a long-term affiliation as a leading instructor for software companies.  He has been a guest speaker at national and regional events. He has also been a guest lecturer and project leader for the MBA programs at the University of Dayton, Georgetown University, and Wright State University.
